What's A Mycoprotein?

The specific mycoprotein in Quorn is a mold called Fusarium venenatum, found in soil in Marlow, England. The mycoprotein is fermented in a vat, and the end result is a substance with a similar mouth feel to meat.

Allergen Controversy

There has been some controversy surrounding allegations that Quorn is likely to cause food allergies. Statistically, one in 146,000 people is allergic to Quorn. The other common meat substitute, soy, has an allergy rate of one in 350, meaning that Quorn is significantly less likely to cause allergies than soy.
