Guide Note
Quantum physics (also known as quantum mechanics) is the branch of science dealing with all things that are very small (on the atomic and subatomic levels) and their quantized nature.
Fast Facts
- The term Quantum Mechanics was coined by Max Born in 1924
- The word "Quantum" in Latin translates to "how much"
- There is still a discrepancy between Einstein's general relativity and quantum physics
Glossary
- Quantum: A discrete quantitative value used when describing the energy and momentum of subatomic particles
- Wave Function: A form of mathematical equation capable of mapping the states of quantized particles using complex numbers
- Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle: Limits the amount of information that can be known about a particle's momentum or location. The more that is known about one, the less that can be known about the other.
- Pauli Exclusion Principle: States that there can not be two Fermions with the exact same quantum state
