On October 29, 2008, the Phillies won their second ever World Series, with a victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Phillies won the series 4 games to 1. Cole Hamels was named the MVP of the series.1
1980 World Series Championship
In 1980, the Phillies won their first World Series Championship led by the tandem of future Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt and all-time hit king Pete Rose. The Phillies would win the East Division and face the Houston Astros. The Championship series would go the full five games with the Phillies winning the final game in extra innings. The Phillies would then face the Kansas City Royals in the World Series. They would defeat the Royals in six games and Mike Schmidt would be named the World Series Most Valuable Player in a year where he also would win the National League Most Valuable Player award.
