Phil Jackson

Guide Note: Phil Jackson is a Coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, and previously with the Chicago Bulls. He is also a former player with the New York Knicks. He is renown for winning nine NBA Championships, and Coaching superstars such as Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Shaquille O'Neal, and Kobe Bryant. He is also recognized for his effective use of the Triangle Offense created by Tex Winter.

Early Life

Phillip Douglas Jackson was born in Deer Lodge, Montana on September 17, 1945. He attended college at the University of North Dakota.

Pro Career

He was selected with the 17th Pick in the 1967 draft by the New York Knicks.He was elected to the All-Rookie Team in 1968 and established himself as an excellent defensive role player for the team. He helped to lead the Knicks to an NBA Championship in 1973. He would evenutually retire in 1980.

Coaching Career

Jackson's coaching career started humbly in the Continental Basketball Association, he was able to lead the [[Albany Patroons to a CBA Title. In 1987, he was hired as an Assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls, then later hired as Head Coach in 1989. He would go on to lead the Bulls with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen to six NBA Championships. He would briefly retire in 1998 only to return to coaching for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000. He would lead the Lakers with Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant to three straight NBA Championships.
