Brief Background

Peregrin Took (aka Pippin) is a fictional character from Middle-earth. He is from the race of Hobbits know as Fallohides, who are known for being slightly smaller and quicker than other breeds of Hobbits.

Peter Jackson's film adaptation did not delve into the distinction in age between Pippin and his fellow Hobbits of the fellowship, but Pippin was by far the youngest of the four who set out to destroy the One Ring. In the book, Elrond was hesitant to let Pippin join the fellowship, but Gandalf persuaded him to allow the young Hobbit to be part of the group.
