Plot

Patch Adams is the story of a medical doctor, Hunter "Patch" Adams (Robin Williams) who has become famous for his unconventional approaches to medicine. Patch Adams had attempted to commit suicide, which left him institutionalized. While he is recovering, he discovers he can forget about his own problems by helping others. He studies to become a doctor, purchasing 105 acres in West Virginia to construct the future Gesundheit Institute, a hospital that specializes in doctor-patient interaction. He is removed from the graduate program on several instances, and only graduated after a jury agrees with his methods and allows him to graduate.
