Pacific Standard Time

Pacific Standard Time (or PST) is the standard time zone for parts of Canada, United States and Mexico. PST is three hours behind EST and two hours behind CST. It is 8 hours behind GMT. In the United States, Oregon, Washington and California are located entirely in the Pacific time zone. Most of the Pacific time zone recognizes Pacific Daylight Time during the Spring and Summer months.

In 2007, the United States Congress passed a law changing the dates of PDT to start at 2 am on the second Sunday of March and end at 2 am on the first Sunday of November. The change intended to decrease the amount of electricity used during evening hours in the Spring and Summer. Additionally, studies have shown that there are fewer motor vehicle accidents during Daylight Saving Time.
