PMDD - Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, known in short as PMDD, is essentially an extreme form of premenstrual syndrome. While PMDD shares many of the same symptoms as PMS, it is far less prevalent among menstruating women. The marked difference between PMS and PMDD is, the symptoms associated with PMDD interfere with the sufferer's ability to function and disrupts their normal life.

In the middle of a woman's monthly menstrual cycle, PMDD usually begins to present symptoms. These symptoms most often end with the commence of menstruation.

As of now, there are three main approaches to treating PMDD. The first approach involves some sort of drug therapy. Antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, pain relievers, diuretics, and hormones may be prescribed to treat PMDD. Psychobehaviorial therapy, such as exercise and psychotherapy, is the second approach. Followed by a nutritional approach, including herbal supplements, vitamins, and a specified diet. It is important to consult a physician to come up with a proper treatment plan.
