PAWS Chicago
PAWS Chicago is a non profit and no kill animal shelter that was founded in 1997 by Paula Fasseas. The purpose of PAWS is to reduce the the number of homeless pets in Chicago.
Finding Pippin:
The founding of PAWS Chicago was inspired by a dog that Alexis Fasseas found while visiting the Greek island of Crete. The dog's name was Pippen and he was a spunky terrier that stole the heart of Fasseas. Any stray animals in Greece are poisoned after the tourist seasons end. But Fasseas didn't want this terrible fate for Pippen, so she took him home with her.
Chicago's Homeless Pets:
Paula Fasseas was shocked to realize that there were even more homeless animals living in Chicago. Homeless animals in the Chicago area are taken to animal shelters and over 40,000 of them are killed each year in gas chambers or by lethal injections.
Founding PAWS Chicago:
When PAWS Chicago was founded in 1997, it was originally intended to be an organization that would open the eyes of many about the homeless pet population, but soon became the first state of the art no kill animal shelter in the Midwest.
