Career

Osamu Tezuka is considered one of the most influential manga artists of all time.² Growing up during World War II, he created manga and animations that further examined the "preciousness of life."¹

Thematic elements Tezuka explored through his work included intolerance (Astro Boy), war (Stories of Adolf), transformation (Marvelous Melmo), environmentalism (Kimba the White Lion), science (Black Jack), reincarnation (Phoenix) and Buddhism (Buddha).²

Tezuka died of stomach cancer in 1989 at the age of 60. In 1994, the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum located in Takarazuka was opened in his honor.
