According to Sleep and Biological Rhythms, low amounts of orexin A were found in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with narcolepsy.1 Consequently, the use of orexin A as a sleep deprivation treatment has spurred attention in the pharmaceutical industry.
In 2007, a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience showed that orexin A has the potential to treat cognitive problems caused by sleep deprivation when it is administered intranasally.2
