- 1999: Democratically elected Pakistani President, Nawaz Sharif is ousted from office during a military coup led by Pervez Musharraf

- 1973: President Richard Nixon names Gerald Ford as his new Vice President after Spiro Agnew was forced from office.

- 1492: Christopher Columbus reached North America. On a journey commissioned by Queen Isabella, Columbus was looking for India instead he landed in the Bahamas.
