History and People
In 1867, Nova Scotia was among the first four provinces that constituted the Dominion of Canada. The first inhabitants were the Mi’kmaq (native Americans), followed by the French settlers and colonizers from Scotland.
Politics and Religion
The major political parties include the Liberals and the Conservatives. Approximately one-third of the populace is Roman Catholic, and other religious groups include the United Church of Canada, the Anglican Church and the Baptist church.
