- Awaiting start of 2nd Half... For most of the first half, the Cougars had the game at the exact speed and pace that they wanted, but were unable to score when they had opportunities to do so. Meanwhile, with Hansbrough being shackled, the Tar Heels were able to get solid effort from Danny Green and Wayne Ellington, as they were able to knock down shots from the perimeter in the latter portion of the first half. For Washington State to come back in this game, they must continue to set the pace but must do a better job of crashing the glass at the offensive end and force turnovers like they did in the early part of the half.

- 11:56: TV TIMEOUT - Cougars are controlling the pace of the game, working the shot clock and rotating back on defense to force UNC to pull up and run their offense, rather than trying to run the fast break. Washington State needs to do a better job on the boards at the defensive end, though, and not let the Tar Heels have 2nd and 3rd and even 4th chances.
- 12:33: Offensive foul on Weaver of the Cougars
- 12:45: North Carolina ties it at 10-10 - Green steals it after he misses and scores quickly
- 13:16: Washington State leads 10-8 - Weaver just in front of the 3-point line
- 13:43: Hansbrough called for a travel, 4th turnover on UNC - Hansbrough struggling so far with this defense
- 14:15: Washington State ties it at 8-8 - Weaver scores on a quick shot
- 14:18: Reach in foul called on Ginyard of UNC
- 15:09: Washington State trails 8-6 - Baynes hits a turnaround jump shot
- 15:44: North Carolina gets 2 free thrwos from Ellington - Carolina leads 8-4 - action
- 15:57: TV TIMEOUT - Early on it's obvious the Heels want to run, and the Cougars need to be weary of how the Heels will seemingly downshift into their offense, but they are actually looking for a quick cutter for an easy basket. So far, the Cougars have not been able to take advantage of open looks, something they will need to handle in order to stay with Carolina.

North Carolina Washington State Pre-Game Analysis
- The Tar Heels have not disappointed so far in the tournament, scoring in triple digits in both games. Unlike some of the other top seeds that are struggling to close out games (see Memphis) or struggling to show up in games (see UCLA), Roy Williams has North Carolina playing letter-perfect basketball. The team is shooting the ball at a high percentage in their two victories, and are at 50% from beyond-the-arc. Their ability to knock down shots on the perimeter only makes them more dangerous because of Tyler Hansbrough's presence in the middle. This match-up is all the more intriguing because of the fact that the Tar Heels are scoring at such a frenetic pace, whereas the Cougars are clamping down on their opponents so decisively. The two Washington State opponents in this tournament have combined to score just 81 points in two games, holding both teams under 33% shooting. Washington State has also shown a propensity to score big baskets when needed, especially the combination of Kyle Weaver and Derrick Low.
