Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist Reviews
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist premiered on the festival circuit to mixed reviews. Despite comparisons to Juno, /Film reviewer Peter Sciretta argues that Playlist is "nothing like Juno." Sciretta praised the "wonderful little moments" between Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, but thought the film's "fantastical" story "[got] in the way too often" of the character development.1
Patrick McGavin of Screen Daily also thought the film was "patchy" and suffered from a "segmented" feel. This is mainly due to the novel Rachel Cohn and David Levithan authored, which was also episodic. McGavin did, however, praise the "compelling" cast and "eclectic" soundtrack.2
A The New York Times review stated the movie was "so friendly that you may wish for a little more conflict," but then asked, "why begrudge [the characters] their fun, or wish premature heartache upon them?"3 Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly called it a "marvelous, magical" and "revolutionary movie" because of its characters.4
Variety's John Anderson called Playlist a "formula film," a typical story of two people who dislike each other, then fall in love. Anderson concluded that although the movie was "sweet," its high production value made it "too slick for its own good."5
