Newseum

The Newseum is a news museum located in Washington, DC in between the White House and the U.S. Capital and adjacent to the Smithsonian museums. It is 250,000 square feet and it allows visitors access to five centuries worth of news with up-to-the-second technology and hands-on exhibits.

Within the Newseum you will find seven different levels of galleries, theaters, retail spaces and visitor service centers. All of this allows people that are visiting the museum to see how and why news is made from a behind-the-scenes perspective.

Two of the Newseum's unique features are the 74-foot-high First Amendment that is engraved on the outside of the building and the front wall that's made of glass that allows passersby to see within.

The Newseum also contains pieces of the Berlin Wall.

The Newseum originally opened on April 18, 1997 in Rosslyn, Virginia. It wasn't until the year 2000 that it moved across the Potomac River and into Washington, DC. The original one closed its doors on March 3, 2002 to concentrate solely on building the newer, larger one. It officially opened its doors on April 11, 2008.
