New York Rangers
One of the "Original Six," the New York Rangers play in the Atlantic Division of the NHL's Eastern Conference. Playing at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the Rangers have won the Stanley Cup Playoffs four times, most recently in 1994.
On November 7, 2008, news agencies reported that the Rangers were seeking a draft pick, due to the untimely death of NHL prospect Alexei Cherepanov. The team is claiming that due to Article 8.3 of the NHL's collective bargaining agreement, the team is entitled to a compensatory selection since they aren't able to sign their first-round draft pick.1

Early History
The New York Rangers joined the NHL in 1925. Under head coach and general manager Lester Patrick, the team won their first Stanley Cup Championship in 1926. They played in the championship series a total of four times in their first seven years as a franchise, winning the Stanley Cup again in 1933. Patrick went on to help the Rangers win their third championship in 1940.
Recent Years
Under the leadership of Mike Keenan as head coach and Mark Messier as team captain, the Rangers won their fourth and most recent Stanley Cup in 1994. Messier has since retired, making way for current Rangers leaders Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Shanahan and Martin Straka up to the 2007-08 season. Chris Drury and Scott Gomez now lead the Rangers team..
