Tabloid
The term tabloid originally referred only to the size of a newspaper and not its content. Tabloid dimensions are approximately 11" x 17". Because tabloids are smaller than the standard broadsheet newspaper, the news in them is condensed, which helped to give the term the additional meaning of less substantive, gossipy news.2
