About the Awards
Since 1966, the National Magazine Awards have been put on every year by the American Society of Magazine Editors and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. A National Magazine Award is seen as the highest honor that a person in the magazine industry can acquire, and is referred to as the "Oscar of the magazine world."1 The award statues themselves are known as "Ellies" and resemble an elephant.2 2008 winners included magazines such as Popular Mechanics, National Geographic and The New Yorker.3
