Natalie Maines

Natalie Maines is a Country music singer songwriter and the lead vocalist of the popular country group the Dixie Chicks. After replacing former lead singer Laura Lynch in 1995, Maines and the Chicks went on to multi-platinum success, winning 13 Grammy Awards and 10 Country Music Association Awards. Maines has also been a vocal critic of The Bush Administration and has courted controversy with her outspoken views.

George Bush Controversy

At a concert in London in 2003, on the eve of the Iraq War, Maines was quoted as saying that she was "...ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas." The comment was followed by a public backlash in the United States that included album boycotts and death threats. After a brief hiatus, the Dixie Chicks returned with the album Taking the Long Way, which won five Grammys.
