Nashville Star is a reality show that features contestants singing and performing country music. The winner of the show receives a recording contract and the chance to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. The sixth season of Nashville Star premiered on NBC on June 9, 2008. On August 4, 2008, Melissa Lawson was named the winner of the program.1

Season Six
On June 9, 2008, Nashville Star's sixth season premiered on NBC after a move from USA Network. Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus became the new host, and judges included singer Jewel, music producer and songwriter Jeffrey Steele and musician John Rich from the country duo Big and Rich. On August 4, 2008, Melissa Lawson was chosen as the program's next Nashville Star.2 Gabe Garcia was named the runner-up.1
