History
After a failed bid to convince the New Jersey Devils to relocate to Nashville, the NHL approved the Nashville franchise on June 25, 1997. Season ticket sales began and the saber-toothed tiger logo was chosen in September of 1997. The team name of the Predators was chosen by Nashville fans and announced on November 13, 1997. On May 4, 1998, the franchise was officially announced by the NHL. The first Predators game was held on October 10, 1998, and was a 1-0 loss to the Florida Panthers.
Championships
Through the 2007-08 season, the Predators have not won a division, conference or league championship. The team qualified for its first playoff appearance in 2004, where the Predators were defeated in the first round by the Detroit Red Wings in six games.
