Nancy Cooper
Nancy Cooper, 34, was reported missing on July 12, 2008. On July 15, 2008, authorities were alerted to a body found on the bank of a storm water retention pond near the area where Cooper vanished in Cary, North Carolina. The body was confirmed to be that of Cooper and was discovered by a man walking his dog.1

Search Warrant Obtained
On July 16, 2008, authorities obtained a search warrant for Cooper's home, the Cooper family vehicles, and forensic evidence from husband Brad Cooper. Investigators believe that Cooper's murder was not a random act.4
Custody of Children
On July 17, 2008, Cooper's two young children were put in the custody of Cooper's parents, Garry and Donna Rentz, and her twin sister, Krista Lister. According to reports, the family won custody of the children after accusing Cooper's husband, Brad Cooper, of being abusive toward his wife and kids before she was killed. The family also stated that Brad Cooper allegedly tried to commit suicide in the winter of 2008.5
Press Conference
On July 18, 2008, police appeared at a press conference to discuss Cooper's murder. Although officials would not answer questions regarding the status of the investigation, Cary Police Chief Patricia Bazemore stated that she was "pleased with the progress that we are making at this time."6
