This is a page dedicated to the NFL playoff picture and playoff scenarios, which will show the teams currently in contention for the 2008 NFL Playoffs.

1. There are two conferences: The AFC and The NFC

3. The four division champions plus two at-large, or wild card, teams qualify for the playoffs in each conference
4. The top four seeds in each conference go to the division champions, in order of win-loss record

Division and Wild Card Rules

Though the seeds in each conference are primarily decided by record, there are specific rules to determine division champions and wild card teams in the event of a tie.

If two clubs in the same division have the same record, there are up to 11 variables considered to determine a winner. The teams' head-to-head record is compared, then their divisional record and record in common games. In fact, if no divisional champion can be determined after analyzing all records and schedule strength, a team's total number of net touchdowns can eventually be used to determine the winner.¹
