- 1910: Originally named the National Negro Committee, the name was changed to NAACP
- 1917: Helped get rights for African Americans to serve as officers during World War I
- 1930: First successful fight against a Supreme Court nominee, Judge John Parker
- 1935: Won legal battle to enable black students to attend the University of Maryland
- 1940: Formed the NAACP Legal Defense Fund
