Mumia Abu-Jamal

Death Row Inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal was convicted in 1981 for murdering Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner, and sentenced to death. On March 27, 2008, the 3rd U.S. Court of Appeals granted Jamal a new sentencing hearing.

Before his arrest, Jamal was a Black Panther Party activist, an award winning freelance journalist, and also worked as a taxi cab driver to supplement his income. From prison, he has continued writing and has published a number of books. He has also released a series of spoken word publications. In 1994 Jamal was hired by NPR as a commentator on the radio show All Things Considered. Fast Facts:
