Monta Ellis
Professional basketball guard Monta Ellis plays for the Golden State Warriors in the National Basketball Association.
On October 27, 2008, Monta Ellis released a statement in regards to an injury he sustained riding a moped. Ellis stated that, "I want to be clear that my injury is based on my mistake in judgment. And I always accept responsibility for my actions." Ellis was suspended 30 days without pay for violating his contract.1

Early Career
Ellis was drafted by the Warriors in the second round of the 2005 NBA draft, ranking 40th overall. He was drafted from high school, one of 10 high school students drafted that year. He made his NBA debut against Phoenix on November 12, 2005, and played in 49 of the team's 82 games in the 2005-06 season.2
NBA Career
Prior to the 2007-2008 season, Ellis averaged 12.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.30 steals per game for the 126 games he played for the Warriors the two previous seasons.2
In July of 2008, Ellis was given a $66 million contract with the Warriors. Roughly a month later he was involved in a moped accident that severely injured his ankle. In October of 2008, Ellis was suspended without pay for 30 games, or roughly the time it would take him to recover from the injury.3
