Monkey Island
Monkey Island is a series of four graphical, point-and-click adventure games produced by LucasArts, which follow the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood, a would-be Caribbean pirate, who must defeat the evil pirate LeChuck and win the heart of island governor Elaine Marley.
The game was created by Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman. Gilbert revealed on his Grumpy Gamer blog that the game was largely inspired by Tim Powers' book On Stranger Tides.
Each game consists of a series of mini-puzzles, maps and mazes. The series as a whole is known for its humor, pop culture references and Easter eggs.
Rumors persist that a fifth Monkey Island game is in the making, but LucasArts has offered no official word on the proposed release.
