Guide Note
Monica Bellucci is an Italian model and actress. Originally studying to become a lawyer, she instead opted for a successful career in modeling. Since then, she has graced the pages of many magazines including Vanity Fair, ELLE, and Esquire, and has made consistent appearances in several "Most Beautiful Women in the World" lists.
Though she did have a small role in Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula in 1992, most of Bellucci's earlier films were in Italian. Some of her notable Italian films include Malena and Irreversible. She began transitioning into the awareness of American audiences with her roles as Persephone in The Matrix sequels, Mary Magdalen in the blockbuster Mel Gibson film The Passion of the Christ, and starring alongside Bruce Willis in 2003's Tears of the Sun.
In 2007, Bellucci starred with Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti in the action/comedy Shoot 'Em Up.
