Modern Menorah Ideas
If you want to go modern this Hanukkah, there are a number of shops that offer non-traditional menorahs. Many are twisted metal, hand-blown glass, sculpted from clay and there is even a modern menorah made from high-heeled shoes. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on a modern menorah, look around the house and see what materials you have on hand to make your own.
Hanukkah Menorah Trivia
Menorahs are lit when the first stars appear in the sky4
The blessing and miracle of Hanukkah is meant to be shared, so often menorahs are traditionally lit outside, or in a place where it can be viewed from outside the home.5
The Hanukkah menorah, which is also called the Chanukiah, was inspired by the lamp that stands in synagogues. That lamp is known as ner tamid—which translates into the eternal flame. The original menorah holds only seven candles, while the Chanukiah holds nine.6
