Health Problems

The breed is considered a generally healthy breed but can be susceptible to epilepsy, heart defects, eye problems,obesity and thyroid problems.¹ The dog is small and considered part of the toy breed, but is generally territorial, and energetic.

Sports and Activities

In Germany, the dog was used to hunt rats.² The breed is considered a toy breed but at one time was part of the terrier group. Although it is commonly thought to be a miniature version of the Dobermann Pinscher, the two share no ancestry.³ The dog is also traditionally sturdy, compact and naturally confident. ⁴
