Career

After serving in World War II, Millard Kaufman moved to California to be a screenwriter. In one of his scripts, The Ragtime Bear, Kaufman wrote up a character that later became a popular cartoon: Mr. Magoo.

Kaufman's success continued in the 1950s, earning two Oscar nominations for his screenplays for Take The High Ground and Bad Day At Black Rock.

In 2007, Kaufman published his first novel, Bowl of Cherries, at the age of 90.
