The Photos
In one photo Cyrus is seen lying on a bed with a teenage boy, who is reportedly her boyfriend, Thomas Sturges. In another photo, she is pulling her white tank top down and revealing her green bra. In another, she is lifting up her black shirt and the boy is staring at her body with his hand placed on her hip. While the photos would not be notable from an older starlet, Cyrus is 15, a Disney star, and considered a role model for the tween set.
The Apology
Cyrus told People Magazine that the photos were "silly and inappropriate," and apologized for letting her fans down.
Earlier Photos
A previous set of racy pictures appeared on the Internet in December of 2007, showing Cyrus on the floor of a hotel room sharing a piece of candy with a female friend. Some commentators argued that the photos were completely innocent, while others felt the pictures seemed sexual in nature.
Vanity Fair Shoot
Cyrus was photographed by Annie Liebowitz for an issue of Vanity Fair. While Cyrus has a sheet pulled over her, she is obviously topless underneath the sheet. Cyrus has said that Liebowitz coerced her into taking the photos, and that she is ashamed of them.
