Michael Arthur Howell

On May 19, 2008, Michael Arthur Howell, an insurance agent in North Carolina, was arrested and charged with homicide in connection with the disappearance of Sallie Rohrbach.

Howell's agency had been under investigation and Rohrbach, a state insurance investigator, had been sent out in reference to a complaint against him on the day of her disappearance. The nature of the complaint has not been disclosed.

Sallie Rohrbach Disappearance

On Wednesday, May 14, 2008, Sallie Rohrbach, an agent for the North Carolina State Department of Insurance, left work to investigate a complaint against the offices of Michael Arthur Howell.

That night, she did not make a meeting scheduled with a friend.

The next day she missed a meeting scheduled with her supervisor. When coworkers attempted to contact her, both her personal and work cell phones were turned off. When she did not come into work on Friday, May 16, coworkers called the police.

Police found Rohrbach's car parked at a local fast-food restaurant on Sunday, May 18, 2008, but found no sign of her in or around the vehicle.

North Carolina police are still searching for Rohrbach's body.
