Meth Epidemic

Methamphetamine, nicknamed "meth", became an extremely popular street drug in the 1990s, and usage reached epidemic proportions in the latter half of the decade. Usage has allegedly declined since 1999; unfortunately, usage of heroin and crack cocaine has increased during this period. Meth damages dopamine receptors, causing users to become depressed when not on the drug. Recovering users can treat the depression with antidepressants.
