The city of Memphis is located in the southwestern corner of Tennessee, in Shelby County. It sits along side of the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. Memphis was founded and 1820 and was named after the ancient capital of Egypt.

Memphis in May
Beginning on May 1 and ending on the last day of May, the city of Memphis has a month long festival. The event host the largest barbecue contest in the USA, the The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. The annual event began in 1977.
