Mel Blount

Mel Blount is a retired National Football League Cornerback who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1970-1983. Blount was raised on a poor farm in Georgia and excelled at athletics throughout school and was granted a scholarship from Southern University. While in college he earned the title of All-American at both the safety and cornerback positions. He was drafted to the Steelers in 1970 and was a key member of the Steel Curtain defense the won 4 Super Bowl titles in the 70s. After retirement, Blount served as the NFL Director of Player Relations until 1990. He also founded Mel Blount Youth Home in Claysville, PA, which cares for children who have been abused or neglected.
