Plot Summary
Bret Maverick (Mel Gibson) is a gambler who is desperate to make it to the Three Rivers Poker Championship. He is only $3,000 short of the entrance fee, which he figures he can win easily by swindling a group of small-time poker players. However, his opponents turn out to be more wily than they had first appeared, and Maverick soon discovers that he is not the only con man in the game as a host of characters do everything they can to prevent him from competing in the championship.
