Maundy Thursday
Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter during the Christian church's Holy Week. During the first Maundy Thursday, Jesus was said to have had his Last Supper, washed his disciple's feet and was betrayed by Judas. It is a solemn holiday, on which churches often do not ring their bells.1

Traditions
Some churches have a communion on Maundy Thursday in remembrance of Jesus's last supper. Some churches also have feet washing ceremonies in remembrance of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples.2
Origin of the Word "Maundy"
The word "Maundy" comes from a Latin word meaning "command." Maundy Thursday is called so because Jesus was said to have commanded his disciples to love and serve each other.2
