Matti Juhani Saari

Matti Juhani Saari, YouTube user name Wumpscut86, is the suspected shooter in the 2008 Kauhajoki School shooting in Finland. Saari is believed to have shot and killed ten fellow students on September 23, 2008. After the shooting, Saari shot himself in the head and died at the hospital.¹

The shooting occurred just hours after he posted a threatening video on YouTube entitled "You Will Die Next" in which Saari fires almost directly into the camera.²

The day before the shooting Saari was questioned by police over similar videos on his account. He was not arrested because he had a gun permit and did not make any direct threats.³

Questioned by Police

Police questioned Saari September 22, 2008, after seeing the YouTube videos of him firing his pistol at a shooting range. They found that he had a temporary weapons permit, therefore they had no reason to arrest him.²

At the time Saari was questioned, he had not posted the "You will die next" video. A police spokesman said that if the original videos posted were as explicit, he would have been investigated further.⁶ The shooting rampage took place the next day.
