Mattel Apologizes to China
Senior Mattel executive Thomas A. Debrowski issued a public apology to China for recent recalls of Chinese-made toys.
Approximately 21 million toys had been recalled over the course of five weeks due to the excessive levels of lead paint used in the manufacturing of the toys.
Mattel has now stated that the recall, based on lead-tainting was unjustified. The recall was put in effect due to design flaws for which Mattel accepts full responsibility.
Debrowski stated that the "vast majority of those products that were recalled were the result of a design flaw in Mattel's design, not through a manufacturing flaw in China's manufacturers."
