Mary Jo Bathon

On March 28, 2008, Mary Jo Bathon gave birth to a baby boy. When she was ready to leave the hospital, she was handed her new son and had a weird feeling, but she left the hospital anyway. On her way home she stopped to get some baby supplies and she even breast fed the baby when she got home.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, 17 year old Kassie Hopkins, who also gave birth to a baby boy at the same hospital on the same day, just learned from the hospital staff that they had accidentally switched the babies and her son, Riley Howard Spencer, was with Bathon. She had Mary Jo Bathon's son Hunter Allen Bathon. She was worried sick for a couple of hours, waiting for her son to arrive back at the hospital, which he later did. Both babies were reunited with the correct parents.

The switch happened when both of the boys went to get circumcised. Somehow their identification bracelets were removed and put back on the wrong baby.

The hospital apologized for the incident, but both woman are suing the hospital for monetary damages of over $50,000. They want the hospital to change their policies, making sure this never happens to anyone else. Fast Facts:
