Stay of Execution
In December of 2006, Florida prisoner Angel Diaz was executed by lethal injection, but required a second injection before expiring 34 minutes after the process began. The incident led Governor Jeb Bush to suspend all pending executions until Florida's execution methods were further investigated.1
After revisions were made to Florida's execution methods, Schwab's execution was scheduled for November 15, 2007. Just hours before the execution, a federal judge granted Schwab a stay of execution pending a Supreme Court investigation into the constitutionality of lethal injection.2
