Cotillard's "mermaid" dress was praised by most red carpet onlookers. One blogger wrote that Cotillard wore "the only truly Hollywood-worthy gown of the evening."¹

Additional praise came from People Magazine, which considered Cotillard one of the best dressed of the evening.² Julia Turner at Slate Magazine said the dress may have been her "favorite Oscar dress ever."³

According to fashion blog FabSugar, Cotillard wanted to wear the dress as soon as she saw it.⁴ During the ceremony, the actress won the "Best Actress" Oscar for her role in La Vie En Rose.
