The Mushroom Gorge shortcut is arguably the second-biggest shortcut on a course in Mario Kart Wii. However, it is the toughest shortcut to accomplish because it does not register automatically like the shortcut in Grumble Volcano. The shortcut was first made public on June 21, 2008 and has since been achieved many times by video game competitors. While it was initially recognized as legitimate on the Mario Kart Wii Channel, Nintendo has since deleted times that are suspicious.
- Start off as normal. Before you get to the wood bridge, head extremely left onto one of the two mushroom platforms (if you want to play it safe, go onto the second mushroom). You will need to use a mushroom boost to get to either mushroom platform.
- When you land on the mushroom, perform an aerial trick and drive right into the mountain wall.
- The moment you hit the wall, tilt the analog stick to the right. The vehicle will actually now go left as you ride the wall. You will not be able to see the ground.
- When you see the ground, either the dirt track or grass, land on the ground, steer left and head for the finish line.
The shortcut does not always register, and it will only be acknowledged depending on where you hit the wall where you descend. 1
