March Madness

Guide Note: This page contains links to all of the various NCAA Men's Basketball Conference Championships that take place to help determine the 65 teams in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Both the conference tournaments and the NCAA Tournament are considered to be part of March Madness, a term generally accepted to mean these tournaments. The term originally referred to a high school championship tournament in Illinois. Brent Musberger is generally given credit for coining the phrase in regards to the college tournaments; especially the NCAA Tournament because there are 65 teams playing 64 single elimination games over 3 weeks.

Fast Facts:

  1. Tournaments take place March 4 through 16, 2008
  2. Ivy League is only one of 31 leagues not to have a post-season tournament
  3. Many of the mid-major conferences will only get 1 team into the field of 65
  4. Teams from major conferences considered to be 'on the bubble' need a solid run in a conference tournament so they can impress members of the selection committee
  5. Most games televised on ESPN - check each tournament
