Mahir al-Zubaydi
Mahir al-Zubaydi--sometimes called Abu Rami and believed to be a leader of al Qaeda in Iraq--was reportedly killed by coalition forces in Baghdad on October 4, 2008.1 Mahir al-Zubaydi was found in Baghdad's Adhamiya neighborhood and was killed, along with one woman, following a short fire fight.1

Mastermind of Attacks
Al-Zubaydi was believed to be the mastermind to several attacks throughout Iraq. The most recent attack, on October 2, 2008, killed eight people outside of a Shiite mosque in Baghdad. He was also reportedly responsible for earlier car bombings including a 2006 bombing that killed 200 people. Also in 2006, al-Zubaydi was videotaped shooting a Russian diplomat, that his group had kidnapped.1
