Madrid Bombing Verdicts
On October 31, 2007 Spanish courts announced the verdicts for 28 suspects arrested in connection to the Madrid train bombings that took place on March 11, 2004. Seven were acquitted, and 21 were convicted of charges ranging from forgery to mass murder. Because of the many civilian deaths, the public was surprised when the verdicts were not uniformly harsh on all the defendants.1
