Headquartered in El Segundo, California, Axiotron is a hardware manufacturing company. They are part of the Apple Premier Developer program. This gives them direct access to Apple's engineers, many of whom provided assistance in developing the Modbook.

On several occasions, rumors of an official Apple tablet have surfaced. These rumors are sometimes accompanied by graphic renderings of the conceptual product. Prior to the release of the iPhone 3G, some rumors pointed to a possible tablet and phone hybrid. The rumored product was, in a sense, a large iPhone with similar touchscreen functionality. At this time, there are no confirmed Apple tablet products being developed.
