Guide Note:

The Mid-American Conference plays college football at the Division I level. The league was established in 1946. It was originally made up of four charter members: Butler University, which left in 1950, Cincinnati, which left in 1953, Case Western Reserve University, which left after 1955, and Ohio University, which is the only remaining charter member. In 1948, the league included both Miami of Ohio and Western Michigan. In 1951, both Kent State and Toledo joined the league. Bowling Green joined in 1952, and then Marshall joined in 1954, left in 1969, rejoined in 1997, and left again in 2005. In 1972, both Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan joined, and were followed one year later by both Ball State and Northern Illinois. The Huskies left the league in 1986 but rejoined in 1997. Akron joined in 1992 and Buffalo did so in 1999. Central Florida briefly belonged to the league for 3 years, and in 2007, Temple joined as a football-only school.
